The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Blessed of the Holy Brothers, has begun this Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, an official visit to the People’s Republic of China, which will extend until next April 5th.
The official visit of Minister Bendito Freitas to the People’s Republic of China follows the official invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, to further strengthen diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation between Timor-Leste and China.
During the bilateral meeting between Minister Bendito Freitas and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, important issues of mutual interest will be discussed, including the visit of the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, to China, the “Belt and Road” Cooperation Plan, China’s position on the South China Sea issue, the reiterated support of China for Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN, cooperation between the CPLP member countries and China and the East Timor–China Air Services Agreement, among other issues.
