Jose Ramos Horta, the president of Timor-Leste, criticized the parties concerned for the loss of civilian lives in the storm of armed conflict between Hamas and Israel. And questioned the credibility of the UN over the crisis.

“Indiscriminate killing of non-combatants, civilians, of women and children, perpetrated by whoever, anywhere, is abhorrent, must be unequivocally condemned…Without hesitation or ambiguity, we condemn every and any act of indiscriminate violence and killing of civilians. ”  Express Ramos Horta on his social media, Dili, 10th October 2024

He added the legitimate cause of a functional Palestinian State is seriously endangered by Hammas’ apparent indiscriminate assaults, kidnappings, and executions of kidnapped people. Any political or theological justification for the indiscriminate slaughter of civilians must be rejected.

President of Timor-Leste (2022-2027)Ramos Horta also criticized Prime Minister Netanyahu, saying that his policies of flagrantly expanding Israeli colonial settlements in defiance of international law and UN Security Council resolutions have stoked Palestinians’ resentment and rage and contributed to the crisis’ drastic worsening.

The 1996 Nobel Peace Prize laureate reiterated his remarks to the UN General Assembly on September 23 by saying that Israel’s flagrant rejection of the two-state solution (Israel and Palestine coexisting) “poses a serious reputation challenge to the UNSC and perpetuates a profound injustice”.
